SUMMARY:Lunch Seminar TU Delft Futures
DESCRIPTION:  \nFrom Digital Dependency to Digital Autonomy\nSpeaker: Quirine van Eeden\, researcher at the Rathenau Institute \nProgramme: Thursday\, 9 October 2025 \n11:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. Mini-lecture\n12:00 p.m. – 12:30 p.m. Interactive Q&A\n12:30 p.m. – 1:00 p.m. Networking lunch \nOur society is increasingly reliant on cloud services\, software and AI tools from a small number of American technology companies. But what does this dependence mean for the control of our education\, healthcare and government? What risks arise when public organisations no longer have control over their core digital processes? And how can we develop alternatives that contribute to digital autonomy? \nThe Rathenau Institute investigated these questions in a three-part series entitled From digital dependency to digital autonomy. It describes how the power of big tech has been built up (Behind the power of big tech)\, how digital dependency manifests itself in practice in public sectors (Digital dependency in focus)\, and what options are available for building greater digital autonomy (Setting a course towards digital autonomy). \nIn this TU Delft Futures Seminar\, Quirine van Eeden will take us through the key findings from this trilogy. Together\, we will explore what increasing digital dependency means for society and what implications this has for knowledge institutions such as TU Delft. \nClick here to sign up \nLocation\nMechanical Engineering (ME)\nMekelweg 2\, 2628 CD Delft\nLecture Hall B – Isaac Newton\, 34.A-0-720
